Anfield boss set to continue summer spending.
Liverpool are plotting a £15m double defender deal for Newcastle Uniteds Jose Enrique and Birminghams Scott Dann.
But the Scot has been told by owners Fenway Sports Group that he will need to sell before he can buy with several existing players set to be offloaded, according to sources close to the club.
Heading the list of Anfield casualties will be Alberto Aquilani, David Ngog, Christian Poulsen, Joe Cole and Maxi Rodriguez.
Once funds are available, Dalglishs summer exploits will continue with the £8m signing of centre-back Scott Dann.
The Merseysiders will then move for Newcastles wantaway full-back Jose Enrique.
Dalglish is in no rush to land the Spaniard and is willing to wait until late in the transfer window to land the Spaniard in a cut-price £7m deal.
It seems that the conceding of 12 goals in four pre-season matches has brought home to Kenny Dalglish his side’s defensive frailties and the Scot is now ready to spend to beef up a back line that is in need to repairing.
Having spent over £100m on new players in 2011, with only one of the six signings being related to Liverpool’s back line (the capture of Roma keeper Doni), the Liverpool boss is ready to make much needed additions to help resolve defensive concerns.
Scott Dann has been linked with a move to Anfield for a while and the Liverpool born 24 year old is a composed and determined customer and injury to the centre back in January almost certainly contributed to Birmingham City’s slide down the table and their inevitable relegation. His partnership with Roger Johnson was a solid one and now that his team-mate has left for Wolves, Dann will surely be very tempted by an instant return to the top flight.
Birmingham City’s very pubic financial problems and owner Carson Yeung has recently had his assets seized and there is talk that the Blues could be in financial danger if they dont sell players soon.
Jose Enrique has been on the verge of leaving St James’ Park for months now, the Spaniard has just a year left on his current Newcastle United contract and appears to have no intention of signing a new contract. The left back area is well known as a problem area for Liverpool and having sold Paul Konchesky to Leicester City Dalglish now wants to bring in a first choice full back to fill the spot.
Liverpool were interested in Gael Clichy but the Arsenal man left for Man City and a move to bring in Enrique is seemingly very likely if the Merseyside club stumps up the money that owner Mike Ashley wants for the former Villarreal defender.
