White Hart Lane club will have to sacrifice star for Etihad Stadium hit-man.
Manchester City will offer striker Emmanuel Adebayor to Tottenham Hotspur in a straight swap deal for winger Aaron Lennon.
Blues boss Roberto Mancini has turned his sights on the Spurs speedster after growing frustrated in his attempts to sign Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri.
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is interested in the deal, following the bust-up he and Lennon had during the Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid.
The 24-year-old controversially withdrew just minutes before the 4-0 defeat at the Bernabeu due to illness, which Redknapp felt he should have been made aware of earlier.
The White Hart Lane boss will sanction a swap if he can lure Adebayor back to north London, according to the Daily Mirror.
High-level talks between City and Spurs have begun but Redknapp still faces the problem of getting the Togo international to join within his pay ceiling.
Real Madrid were rumoured to be after Adebayor, following a semi-successful loan spell in Spain, but Los Blancos have distanced themselves recently.
Mancini wants an answer soon on the player’s future as he is still determined to spend again – and he wants rid of Adebayor.
