Etihad Stadium want San Siro hero.
Manchester City want to swap captain Carlos Tevez for Inter Milan’s Maicon but the Blues are demanding £25million plus the defender.
City had been linked with a move for forward Samuel Eto’o but were surprised when Inter president Massimo Moratti offered the Brazilian instead.
The Serie A giants envisage a straight swap deal but Blues boss Roberto Mancini rates Maicon at only £15million, leaving a huge gap between that and Tevez’s £50million price tag.
Inter are reluctant to pay the extra £25million but City are not in a situation to be forced into a deal they do not want, according to the Daily Mirror.
Mancini brought Maicon to the San Siro in 2006 and made the 30-year-old a key figure that won three Serie A titles, a Coppa Italia and a Champions League.
The Italian side have already signed Maicon’s replacement, Jonathan, from Santos and are keen to get him off the wage bill.
Tevez – whose hopes of a transfer to Real Madrid appear to have fallen through – is now due back at City on Monday after an extended break following his Copa America exertions.
