White Hart Lane boss closes in on Bernabeu midfielder.
Tottenham are holding talks with Real Madrid over the Spanish giants’ midfielder Lassana Diarra.
The North Londoners refused the opportunity to snap up free agent Joey Barton earlier this week because they are confident of being able to tie up a deal for 26-year-old Diarra.
The player has made it clear he would be up for a move to White Hart Lane and Spurs are confident they can complete his signing before the window closes at the end of the month.
Diarra has made it clear he wants out of the Bernabeu after failing to see regular first-team football last season.
He, along with fellow midfielders Pedro Leon and Sergio Canales were left out of Jose Mourinho’s 25-man squad for Real’s pre-season tour of America.

Clearly Harry Redknapp knows Lassana Diarra wel land whilst Portsmouth manager arguably resurrected the French international’s career after stuttering stints at Arsenal and Chelsea and perhaps the Real Madrid midfielder feels that the White Hart Lane boss can repeat the feat by re-igniting the enforcer’s career back in the Premier League.
The 26 year old defensive midfielder has fallen out of favour at the Bernabeu and is itching to leave the Spanish giants and a move to Tottenham may suit all parties down to the ground. The £15m rated battler could well add more steel to Redknapp’s midfield and in turn Diarra will get the regular first team football he is looking for.
Harry Redknapp has been looking to strengthen the centre of his midfield and to that end has been strongly linked with a move for West Ham’s Scott Parker but that trail has run dry of late and a move for Lassana Diarra would appear to be a wiser long term solution given that the England international will turn 31 in a few months.
Wilson Palacios looked a shadow of his former self last term and perhaps Brazilian Sandro is still too raw for regular first team action and Diarra has experience that may help the North London side push for a place back at the Champions League table.
Also a move for such an established star may help appease Luka Modric and help prove to the Croatian that Tottenham have ambitions that can match his.
