Old Trafford side said to be very close to completing deal to sign Inter Milan star.
Inter Milan playmaker has indicated his desire to join Man United and has suggested that the Serie A club and the Premier League champions are in ‘unofficial talks’ to seal the deal. Souce www.nos.nl posted a video interview with the Dutch international stating that “I think Inter have been very clear: if a good offer comes in, they have to let me go. If something crosses my path, I have enough time to make my decision.”
Old Trafford chief executive David Gill stated earlier in the month that the club were still in pursuit of another ‘marquee’ signing and there appears to be renewed hope that a deal will be struck before the transfer window slams shut at the end of the month.
Sir Alex Ferguson has spent upwards of £50m to bring David de Gea, Phil Jones and Ashley Young from Atletico Madrid, Blackburn Rovers and Aston Villa respectively but the Man United boss has been promised further funds as he looks to bring in a player to improve the creativity in his midfield.
Though youngster Tom Cleverley impressed many with this pre-season form following his season on loan at Wigan last term, Ferguson still feels he needs an experienced campaigner to fill the void left by veteran Paul Scholes. To that end Man United have also been linked with interest in Luka Modric and Samir Nasri but appear to be nearer to snapping up Wesley Sneijder.
The two clubs have reportedly agreed a £35m fee for the player and talks are ongoing to get a deal ironed out before August 31st. Some sources seem to believe that a major obstacle had been Sneijder’s large wage demands but it seems that the Premier League champions and the former Ajax and Real Madrid man may be moving towards agreeing a £200k a week four year deal.
