Old Trafford boss wants Emirates Stadium attacker.
Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to enter the race to sign Arsenal attacker Samir Nasri after it became clear that Arsene Wenger was now willing to consider offers for the want-away French international. The 24 year old has one to run on his current contract and previously the Gunners boss had stated his intention to keep the former Marseille man but now seems ready to cash in to avoid losing the player for nothing next summer.
Man City appear to be leading the chase and boss Roberto Mancini is willing to offer up to £25m for Nasri as well as a bumper salary but Ferguson will look to offer a similar deal as a possible alternative to his long running chase to sign Inter Milan star Wesley Sniejder.
The Old Trafford boss has spent the summer looking to add more creativity to his midfield and with that in mind has been strongly linked with interest in Tottenham’s Luka Modric as well as Sniejder but may now feel that Nasri is the most cost effective, and youngest, target available.
Having already forked out big money to bring in David de Gea, Phil Jones and Ashley Young the Man United boss has been assured he has funds to bring in another ‘marquee’ signing and this has been reaffirmed by the club’s chief executive David Gill.
Having seen Paul Scholes hang up his boots Ferguson may well feel that he needs a goal scoring presence in his midfield and Samir Nasri had his most effective season last term, netting 15 goals and assisting many others.
The cost to bring in the Arsenal flair player would undoubtedly be less than moves for either Modric and Sneijder and the French international may well feel that a move to Man United, over a move to neighbours City, would be more likely to help secure the major honours he feels he can not garner at his current North London club.
