Anfield welcomes St James’ Park left-back.
Liverpool have finally agreed a £6million fee with Newcastle United for defender Jose Enrique.
The Reds have finally secured the services of the 25-year-old after a summer-long transfer saga.
The Spaniard joined the Magpies from Villarreal in 2007 for £6.3million but a after a difficult start on Tyneside has proved himself a capaable Premier League left-back.
Enrique, who only had one-year remaining on his contract, made it clear he would not be renewing his deal with Newcastle.
The Toon Army will now be left hunting for a new left-back although they have already expressed an interest in PSV Eindhoven’s Erik Pieters.
Reds boss Kenny Dalglish looks to have finally solved his left-sided defensive problem. Last year he was short of options and had to play Glen Johnson out of position.
The signing of Enrique would provide Liverpool with a more balanced and attacking left side having already recruited winger Stewart Downing from Aston Villa.
It would also add more strength to a defence which conceded 15 goals in six pre-season friendlies.
