Etihad Stadium want to beat Stamford Bridge to starlet signature.
Manchester City are contemplating a £40million bid for Santos forward Neymar and beat rivals Chelsea to his signature.
The 19-year-old is one of the most sought after teenagers in the football world after helping his club win the Copa Liberatodores and starring for his national side.
The Brazil international has been a summer transfer target for both Chelsea and Real Madrid but now City have entered the race, according to the Metro.
Neymar had committed his future to Santos but it is expected he will leave his homeland in December when the Brazilian season finishes.
City scouts have been to watch him in action and have given glowing reports to manager Roberto Mancini.
The Italian urgently requires more creative talent and will ask the board to make the deal a priority.
The Blues boss hopes Neymar could strike up a deadly partnership with fellow new-signing Sergio Aguero.
Santos have rejected offers in excess of £30 million for Neymar, so Mancini may have to break his club’s transfer record – the £38 million paid for Aguero – to secure his signature.
Mancini is also interested in a swap deal involving captain Carlos Tevez for Inter Milan star Wesley Sneijder.
The Blues skipper wants to leave the Etihad Stadium and Milan will listen to offers for their Dutchman.
Mancini will only go for that deal if his £22million offer for Arsenal’s Samir Nasri falls through.
