White Hart Lane club want to hijack Emirates club’s bid.
Tottenham Hotspur have entered into negotiations to sign Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Jadson from under the noses of rivals and neighbours Arsenal.
Spurs will offer £12million for the 27-year-old playmaker who has impressed for the Ukraine giants in the Champions League.
The Brazil international is contracted to Donetsk until 2014 but the club are willing to listen to offers.
He scored eight goals in 38 matches last season, with his good form earning him a call-up to the national team.
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is a fan of the midfielder, with Jadson his preferred choice to replace Luka Modric, if the Croatian had gone to Chelsea.
The Blues may yet come back with an improved offer for the 25-year-old and Redknapp wants to have a back-up plan in case Modric does move to Stamford Bridge.
Arsenal need a replacement for Barcelona-bound Cesc Fabregas and look to have failed in their efforts to sign Valencia’s Juan Mata.
The Gunners are still very much the favourites to land Jadson but Spurs’ interest may cause Arsene Wenger to act quickly to seal the deal.
Shakhtar manager Mircea Lucescu insists Arsenal are interested and a move now depends on the Brazilian himself.
“I can confirm Jadson is wanted by Arsenal,’ said Lucescu. “Now it all depends on him.”
