Stade Velodrome president welcomes Emirates approach.
Arsenal have been invited to open negotiations for Marseille midfielder Mathieu Valbuena, by French club’s president Jose Anigo.
The 26-year-old has been on Gunners boss Arsene Wenger’s radar for some time and with captain Cesc Fabregas departing for £35million to Barcelona, a replacement is needed.
The France international had an injury hit season last year but it did not stop Manchester United making inquiries into his availability to fill the boots of Paul Scholes.
Valbuena has started this season brightly with three assists in two games, but Anigo is willing to listen to offers for the playmaker.
But the Ligue 1 side’s president has bad news over the availability of Arsenal’s other target Andre Ayew.
“Mathieu Valbuena has been at the club for six years,” Anigo said. “If Arsenal wants to buy him, discussions can be opened.
“When a player has spent five or six years in a club, out of respect for him, nothing is closed.
“We are very pleased with him but if a big club is interested in Mathieu, people listen. “
“(Andre Ayew) is not for sale,” he added. “While there is a clause, the time limit is exceeded today.
“If you want to buy, you pay a different price than that set at the start. Andre Ayew still has a way to go with us.
