Molineux star could be on his way to Anfield and not Emirates.
Liverpool are planning a surprise £10million bid for Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Kevin Doyle before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month.
The 27-year-old has impressed a number of clubs with his performances as lone hit-man or with a partner, with Arsenal leading the queue for his signature.
But Reds boss Kenny Dalglish will try to usurp all his rivals with a £10million for the Republic of Ireland international.
Dalglish had been linked earlier this summer with a move for Doyle’s Irish team-mate Shane Long before his switch to West Brom, according to the Daily Star.
Liverpool’s director of football Damien Comolli is also keen to bring Doyle to Anfield. He wanted to take him to Tottenham during his time at White Hart Lane.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy will want to hang on to Doyle as he has played a key role in their 100 per cent start to the season.
Dalglish already has some top attacking talent in Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll but with David Ngog seemingly on the verge to Bolton, back up is needed.
The Scot hopes to use the Ngog cash, and possible sales of Alberto Aquilani and Joe Cole to pay for the Doyle move.
