Anfield welcomes Uruguayan star.
Liverpool have agreed to sign Nacional defender Sebastian Coates for £7million.
The 20-year-old has become the most expensive export from Uruguay, smashing the £3.5million Ajax paid Nacional for Nicolas Lodeiro.
The Uruguay international, who won the Copa America Young Player of the Tournament, has been likened to Manchester United defender Phil Jones.
The Reds were also interested in the Englishman but have instead signed the South American equivalent for half the price.
Coates was in high demand with FC Dnipro and Manchester City making serious inquiries but Liverpool have pulled off a coup thanks to striker Luis Suarez.
The hit-man convinced Lodeiro to come to Ajax it appears the striker has once again used his significant influence within Uruguay to get Coates to Anfield.
Coates joined the Nacional academy at 11-years-old and broke into the first team seven years later.
Before making his bow with Nacional the defender helped Uruguay finish third at the 2009 South American under-20 Championships.
He has started in every game for his club since his debut against Bella Vista and helped them win the league and reach the Copa America semi-finals.
It is unlikely Coates will be available for Liverpool’s next game against Bolton on Saturday, meaning the Kop will have to wait until after the international break to get their first glimpse of him.
