Emirates Stadium boss keen on Bernabeu playmaker.
Arsenal have had a loan bid rejected for Real Madrid midfielder Kaka.
Manager Arsene Wenger tried to act quickly to appease fans in the wake of Samir Nasri’s move to Manchester City, which followed Cesc Fabregas’s switch to Barcelona.
But his bid for the Brazilian former World Player of the Year on a season-long loan was dismissed.
Wenger must now decide whether to try and buy Kaka, with Real boss Jose Mourinho known to be keen to off-load him.
Real want to get his £153,000-a-week salary off the books. They will want at least £17.5million.
Signing Kaka, 29, would be a statement of intent by Wenger, although the Frenchman would be loath to spend so much on a player with little resale value.

Now that Arsenal have secured a spot in the Champions League proper, expect Arsene Wenger to start making one or two signings to help replace the loss of Gael Clichy, Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas. The Gunners boss will have been relieved to have overcome Udinese in last night’s crucial qualifier but know’s he still has a lot to do if he wants to see his North London side challenge for major silverware again.
Kaka has fallen down the pecking order at La Liga giants Real Madrid, firstly with the signing last summer of Mesut Ozil and then the resultant captures of Angel Di Maria and Nuri Sahin. Boss Jose Mourinho clearly has an eye for the future and as such the former AC Milan man finds himself warming the bench most weeks. The talented playmaker missed a large portion of last term with injury but when he returned he was left out of the starting eleven but when called upon managed to net seven goals in 14 La Liga appearances.
Wenger is not known for his pursuit of established experienced superstars and any successful bid for the 29 year old Kaka would probably have to break the club’s transfer record. The Emirates Stadium manager knows however that this season could be a make or break one and may therefore look to short team solutions rather than his usual penchant for trusting to youth.
One would have thought that upmost in Arsenal’s priorities would be the addition of a defensive signing or two, to this end Wenger is said to be keen on Werder Bremen’s Per Mertesacker, Birmingham City’s Scott Dann and Bolton’s Gary Cahill. Last summer’s signings Laurent Koscielny and Sebastien Squillaci have failed to adapt to the Premier League and there is much needed reinforcements needed at the back.
Kaka could however be considered an effective replacement for either Fabregas or Nasri as the Brasilia born star can play either in the hole behind the strikers or in a wide attacking role.
