Stamford Bridge boss makes move for former FC Porto charge.
Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has confirmed the club have bid for Porto full-back Alvaro Pereira, but says he is “not very confident” of signing him.
The 25-year-old left-sided wing-back played under Villas-Boas at Porto and helped Uruguay to win the Copa America title during the summer.
“The only thing I can confirm is we have made a bid and are very far apart in terms of numbers,” Villas-Boas said.
The manager said he was “not very confident” a deal could be finalised.

Chelsea are believed to have made a bid of £16.6m for the FC Porto man but as Andre Villas-Boas explains, the Blues may need to up their bid considerably if they want to land the Uruguayan international. The left sided wing-back had a great season at the Estádio do Dragão last term and followed that up by helping his country to Copa America success.
FC Porto are keen to not lose too many of their top talents following the departure of their manager but have already sold Radamel Falcao and Ruben Micael to Atletico Madrid and have a fair few offers for striker Hulk. Hence the Portuguese reportedly slapping a £25m price tag on Pereira.
With talk of a possible exit for Florent Malouda and with an eye to bringing in more youthful additions to the Blues squad a move to bring in Periera makes a great deal of sense. Thus far Villas-Boas has brought in youngsters Romelu Lukaku and Juan Mata, Oriol Romeu as well as keeper Thibaut Courtois who has been loaned out to Atletico Madrid.
