Emirates club to steal a key player from Champions League rival?
Arsenal are weighing up a £16million move for Marseille midfielder Stephane M’Bia.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is a long-term admirer of the 25-year-old and even tried to sign him in 2008 while he was at Rennes.
The Cameroon international, who plays alongside Alex Song, could be reunited if Wenger wants to bring him to the Emirates.
M’Bia could bring added steel and bite to Arsenal’s midfield which has been depleted through injuries, suspensions and departures.
The exits of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri has weakened Wenger’s midfield options but the manager now has £60million to spend on recruitments.
He is also in the market for a defender and a striker with options low in these areas.
Johan Djourou is injury prone, Laurent Koscielny is on the treatment table and Sebastien Squillaci is up for sale, leaving Thomas Vermaelen as the only reliable centre-half.
A £6million plus add ons offer was submitted for Bolton’s Gary Cahill but that has been rejected. Scott Dann is still in the frame.
Wenger also wants a striker to act as cover for captain Robin van Persie as he admitted Nicklas Bendtner is likely to be gone after Wednesday’s transfer deadline.
