St James’ Park club to welcome new left-back.
PSV Eindhoven defender Erik Pieters admits he has play his last game for the Dutch giants ahead of his move to Newcastle United.
The 23-year-old will arrive on Tyneside today to discuss his move to St James’ Park after the clubs agreed a £6million transfer fee.
The Holland international joined PSV from FC Utrecht in 2008 and has made 78 league appearances for the Philips Stadion club.
His arrival will fill the boots of Jose Enrique, who joined Liverpool earlier this month, and mark the end of a summer long search following a failed bid for Swansea’s Neil Taylor.
Pieters revealed last night’s 5-0 defeat of SV Ried in the Europa League may have been his PSV swansong.
“If a club from the Premier League says they want you, and that is the case, then you know the financial means they have,” he told the Algemeen Dagblad.
“Whether I play for PSV at Excelsior on Sunday or am already at Newcastle I do not know.
“I have not seen much of Newcastle myself but my friend (and fellow Dutchman) Tim Krul keeps me informed.”
