One time Old Trafford midfielder to move to the Etihad Stadium?
Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves is reportedly set to complete a surprise move to Manchester City after completing a grueling three hour medical and is to be offered a one year contract by Roberto Mancini.
The 30 year old suffered with repeated injury concerns for the majority of his four years at Old Trafford and was released this summer after his contract came to an end. The former England international regular was spotted at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hospital having been accessed by City staff and appears to have proven his return to full fitness.
Hargreaves managed just four Premier League appearances over the past three seasons having helped his side to a Premier and Champions League double in his first season at the club. Sir Alex Ferguson opted to not renew the Canadian born midfielder’s contract as he has a number of other central midfield options including the likes of Anderson, Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher and in form youngster Tom Cleverley.
Mancini on the other hand is keen to further strengthen his squad and even more beef to a midfield as back up for first choice defensive midfielder Nigel De Jong.
Man City have spent over £70m so far this summer bringing in Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy from Arsenal as well as youngster Stefan Savic from Partizan Belgrade and Argentine striker Sergio Aguero from Atletico Madrid. Mancini is also still reportedly ready to consider offers for Carlos Tevez who still remains at the club despite stating his intention to leave.
West Brom had shown interest in Hargreaves but no deal was forthcoming and now it appears a move across Manchester is looming.
