Loftus Road club want Stadium of Light star.
Queens Park Rangers have opened negotiations with defender Anton Ferdinand over a proposed move from Sunderland.
The 26-year-old is in the final year of his contract and there have been no attempts to open discussions about a new deal.
The Englishman has seen his stock fall this summer following the arrival of John O’Shea and Wes Brown from Manchester United to compete with Michael Turner and Titus Bramble.
It is believed the money generated from his departure will be used to sign another striker for the Black Cats, according to Sky Sports.
Ferdinand, who is the younger brother of England and Manchester United defender, Rio cost the club around £8million three years ago.
But it is thought they will now be prepared to take as little as £1million for the former England Under-21 international.
The Hoops boss Neil Warnock has declared he would like to bring in four or five players before the close of the transfer window and it now looks like that could be the case.
QPR have already signed Joey Barton, Luke Young and Armand Traore since Tony Fernandes tookover the club earlier this month.
