Emirates Stadium boss to make big money offer for talented midfielder.
Arsenal are rumoured to be closing in on Lyon playmaker Yoann Gourcuff as Arsene Wenger looks for an effective replacement for Cesc Fabregas. The Gunners boss has been linked with a number of possible additions to replace the Barcelona man and has long been an admirer of the French international and will reportedly make a £24m offer for the former Bordeaux man.
The 25 year old former AC Milan man has had an up and down time of it since his move to the Stade Gerland just over a year ago and there is speculation that the talented midfielder would be keen on a move to the Premier League side.
Gourcuff saw his Lyon side finish in third spot in Ligue 1 last term, some 12 points behind title winners Lille, a finish some considered something of a disaster given that the side had won seven of the previous nine domestic championships. Wenger would dearly love to bring the playmaker to the Emirates Stadium to fill the void left by Fabregas.
It may help matters that Lyon’s current boss is former Arsenal defender Remi Garde and it seems that the North London club’s board is willing to hand Wenger most of the money accrued from the sales of Fabregas, Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy. It’s been a busy last 24 hours for the club as they have brought in full back Andre Santos and striker Park Chu-Young to add to earlier additions Carl Jenkinson, Gervinho and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
