Stamford Bridge side keen on Nou Camp back up.
Dutch sources are reporting that Chelsea may be about to bring in Barcelona winger Ibrahim Afellay on a season long loan deal. The former PSV Eindhoven man has struggled to get a look in at the Nou Camp and the arrival of Alexis Sanchez coupled with the continued progress of Spaniard Pedro, has left the 25 year old winger spending most of his time at the Catalan club on the bench.
The season long loan would include the possibility of a first refusal to buy the Utrecht born wide man at the end of the campaign.
Andre Villas-Boas may well feel he needs to add more creative options to his squad having seen the Blues struggle to break down the likes of Stoke City, West Brom and Norwich City. Though the West London club have just landed Juan Mata the young Portuguese may feel he needs another wide man having sold Yuri Zhirkov and seemingly not being keen on Florent Malouda who has either been subbed or started on the bench in all three Premier League games this season.
Afellay arrived at Barcelona in January for a cut price fee of around £3m, due to the fact that he was set to be out of contract in the summer, and Pep Guardiola has used the Dutch international sparingly and as such the talented attacker may feel his future lies away from the La Liga and Champions League title holders.
