Former St James’ Park midfielder in rare Twitter ourburst.
QPR midfielder Joey Barton has taken a new swipe at Newcastle United.
Barton is convinced former teammates Cheik Tiote, Tim Krul, Jonas Gutierrez and Fabricio Coloccini will all be on their way in the next 12 months.
Responding to a fan’s question, Barton tweeted: “tiote and krul will be sold as soon as there’s a significant bid or the ask for a new deal, jonas and collo off by this time nx yr”
He also said: “selling their assets and replacing with cheaper gambles. Santon?? 16 games since 2008, in a poor Italian league, hardly proven PL”
Let’s ignore the fact that a QPR player stating that playing for Inter Milan in a ‘poor Italian league’ is a bit rich, overall it does seem that Joey Barton has a point. He had tweeted earlier that Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley and managing director Derek Llambias had clearly not done as they had promised in relation to investing the cash from the £35m sale of Andy Carroll to Liverpool.
Barton, as well as most Magpies fans, will have been angered by the lack of investment in the Newcastle United squad this summer, having lost Kevin Nolan and Jose Enrique, as well as Wayne Routledge, Alan Pardew has been left to look for bargains that may or may not come off.
The captures of Yohan Cabaye and Demba Ba may bare fruit but clearly the North East club has made a huge profit from player sales over the past 18 months and Barton’s assertion that others will leave may well prove to be very accurate.
