Emirates Stadium boss keen to bring in duo.
ARSENE Wenger is confident he will finally land Lille playmaker Eden Hazard for £28million in the January transfer window.
Arsene Wenger made Hazard – also on Kenny Dalglish’s wish-list at Liverpool – his top target during the summer but ran out of time with the French club unable to find a replacement.
“The deal was very close to happening but it couldn’t be done in time,” said an Emirates source.
“Negotiating had all but been done but Lille didn’t have a suitable player to come in for Hazard so it fell short.
“But Arsene will make it come January.”
Wenger will also renew his interest in Rennes defensive midfielder Yann M’Villa, 21.

Despite bringing in Mikel Arteta and Yossi Benayoun it does seem likely that Arsene Wenger didn’t quite get what he wished for during the summer transfer window. Arguably a 29 year old Spaniard without an international cap and a Chelsea player who has started just one Blues match does not adequately cover for the loss of two world class talents, namely Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.
Whilst the signing of both Per Mertesacker and Andre Santos definitely adds quality to a defence that had a fair few holes, namely inconsistent performers likes Laurent Koscielny, Sebastien Squillaci and Johan Djourou, the jury is still very much out on the quality of additions in the midfield and attack.
Arsenal, according to this source, are very much planning to snap up Ligue 1 pair Eden Hazard and Yann M’Vila, two players who you could say had outgrown their clubs. Whilst Lille did of course win their first domestic title in over 50 years the club did lose two of it’s main stars, Yohan Cabaye and Gervinho, as clearly many feel that the French league is very much a stepping stone for a move to a more high profile destination.
M’Vila has been at Rennes his entire career and seems very keen to move on and would clearly be keen on a move to the Emirates Stadium where Wenger could well do with adding the defensive midfielder to his squad, a squad that could do with some added steel.
