Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly scouting two Premier League strikers that he will consider moves for in the long term as he looks to improve his Bernabeu striking options.
The La Liga giants spent nearly £50m on new additions this summer but surprisingly did not bring in attacking alternatives, a decision that is all the more surprising given that the club suffered something of a striking crisis when Argentine Gonzalo Higuain was left out for months with a herniated disc, an injury that left the club having to bring in Emmanuel Adebayor in on loan from Man City.
According to Spanish sources Mourinho is reportedly keen on Man United youngster Javier Hernandez and could look to lure the Mexican international to the club when the transfer window re-opens. ‘Chicharito’ had a hugely successful first season at the Premier League club, netting 20 goals and performing beyond Sir Alex Ferguson’s wildest expectations.
His form left Dimitar Berbatov consigned to the bench for long period and Ferguson appears to value a combination of Hernandez and Wayne Rooney when he fields two up front. The emergence of Danny Welbeck may therefore add another dimension to the alternatives the Man United boss looks to field.
The 23 year old would be a tough players to snare but clearly Real Madrid have managed in the past to bring in players from Man United who many would have predicted would not have been allowed to leave Old Trafford. The likes of Crisitano Ronaldo, Ruud Van Nistlerooy and David Beckham have all made similar moves.
Mourinho is said to be a admirer of Hernandez and especially his displays during Champions League encounters, when he netted crucial goals against Marseille, Chelsea and Valencia.
Real Madrid currently have just two out and out striking options, the aforementioned Higuain and much improved French international Karim Benzema and Mourinho thus has to rely a great deal on goals from his wide midfield areas and most predominantly on Cristiano Ronaldo but clearly it would be unrealistic to expect the Portuguese to register another 40 goal La Liga haul.
Mourinho is also said to be keen on Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, who has made an instant impact on Merseyside. Kenny Dalglish will fight tooth and nail to keep the Uruguayan at Anfield but the allure of a move to Real Madrid may be hard to fend off.
Indeed it seems that the Scot sees the former Ajax man as his first choice striker and whilst a pairing of Andy Carroll is used for some Liverpool fixtures the season Dalglish has looked to play Suarez up front on his own and taking advantage of the goals he can now hope to see coming from his new midfield signings such as Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson.
Liverpool paid £23m to bring Suarez to the club in January and it would take a fairly hefty offer from Real Madrid to have any chance of convincing the club to sell but Mourinho may be relying on the temptation of playing for the Spanish giants being enough to convince the prolific 24 year old pushing for a move.
