Emirates Stadium and Old Trafford boss’s to fight over Bundesliga starlet.
Manchester United and Arsenal are set for battle in what could be one of the most thrilling transfer fights of all time when both clubs try to lure Borussia Dortmund’s Mario Gotze to the Premiership.
The youngster has been mightily impressive for club and country since he burst onto the scene last season but the player has suggested that he will look to remain in Dortmund for a while yet.
With the Bundesliga club currently in the Champions League competition, and looking to retain the Bundesliga title they won in style last season, Gotze was always going to remain this summer however next May will see the highly sought after midfielder become part of one the biggest tussles for one player in some time.
It had been revealed that Manchester United had already offered £1.5m to have the first option on Gotze although it is also rumoured that Arsenal – over the last 24 hours of the summers transfer window – had a £35m bid rejected by Jurgen Klopp’s side.
The fact that Dortmund and Arsenal will meet in the Champions League could work in the Emirates side’s favour with there certain to be a discussion of sorts between Wenger and Klopp – whether that be about “Super Mario” no one but they will know.
Mario Gotze is arguably the most sought after young talent in Europe, that’s as a result of the teenager helping his Borussia Dortmund side to a Bundesliga title and becoming a regular in the German national team set-up, and all before his 20th birthday.
The talented attacking midfielder has been strongly linked with interest from both Old Trafford and the Emirates Stadium and will apparently, according to this source, become the subject of some feverish bidding next summer. The teenager notched up 41 appearances last season and was pivotal in helping his Dortmund side capture the domestic title, his forward running from the midfield and his eye for goal have made him a player eyed up by almost all of Europe’s elite and Jurgen Klopp may struggle to keep the player at Signal Iduna Park much longer.
Such is the player’s potential that, as this source confirms, bids of £30m+ have already been turned down and Gotze may well feel that his future is best served away from a Dortmund side that have far exceeded expectations. The fact that Nuri Sahin left the club for Real Madrid suggests that perhaps the club can not meet some of their players ambitions.
Wenger may see Gotze as an ideal long term replacement for Cesc Fabregas though the German international is perhaps a player more similar to Samir Nasri, in that he plays in a more wide role than the former Arsenal skipper.
Man United boss Ferguson was said to be looking to add more creativity to a midfield that already has the likes of Michael Carrick, Anderson and Darren Fletcher to call upon and the in form youngster Tom Cleverley, this did not reportedly stop the Scot from making very real moves to capture both Luka Modric and Wesley Sneijder.
