Bernabeu side chase Anfield hotshot.
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is being closely monitored by Real Madrid with a view to making a bid for the Uruguayan in January according to El Mundo Deportivo.
According to the Spanish source Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is looking to bring in a big name striker signing in January and with Jose Mourinho reportedly deciding to not pursue Santos youngster Neymar, the 24 year old Anfield striker is at the top of the La Liga giants wish-list.
Perez apparently sees Suarez’s growing profile across Latin America as another factor that appeals to Real’s marketing men and that a bid in the region of £35m could be made when the transfer window re-opens. Mourinho is having to deal with fairly few striking options again this season after last term coming unstuck when Argentine Gonzalo Higuain suffered with a long term injury.
That led to the loan signing of Emmanuel Adebayor from Man City and many had felt that Real Madrid would invest in striking reinforcements this summer but instead Mourinho opted to bring in the likes of Fabio Coentrao, Nuri Sahin and Hamit Altintop, among others, to add more strength in depth to other areas of his squad.
Currently Jose Mourinho depends a great deal on goals coming from his midfield to support his only orthodox strikers, Higuain and Karim Benzema, and an awful lot is expected in goal-scoring terms, from Cristiano Ronaldo but clearly the Portuguese international can not be expected to complete another astonishing 40 goal La Liga haul.
Kenny Dalglish is not likely to listen to offers for Suarez, who has been a consistent performer since his arrival and is now part of Liverpool first choice strike pairing alongside Andy Carroll, although the Scot has also played the former Ajax man up front on his own with a great deal of success also.
Another stumbling block to such a move is the fact that the prolific marksman has professed his admiration for Catalan side Barcelona and appears to have far more interest in a potential move to the Nou Camp but clearly if an offer from a side as accomplished as Real Madrid then there would be a danger that the Liverpool man may be tempted.
Clearly temptation would increase if Suarez could not secure Champions League football with his Merseyside club but currently he appears to be very much enjoying his time with Liverpool and his international team-mate Sebastian Coates has also just signed for the Premier League outfit.
