Swiss wonderkid personally scouted by Alan Pardew.
Newcastle United coach Alan Pardew has personally scouted Swiss wonderkid Xherdan Shaqiri, according to the Daily Mirror.
The Magpies manager was seen at the recent Switzerland match against Bulgaria, and it is believed that he was watching the young attacking midfielder – as well as striker Eren Derdiyok.
However, any successful pursuit of Shaqiri would likely have to fend off plenty of competition.
The young star is thought of as one of the hottest properties in world football, with Arsenal and Liverpool thought to be other interested parties.
The 19 year-old proved his remarkable talent at the summer UEFA Under-21 European Championship, and with Arsene Wenger only recruiting short term replacements for Cesc Fabregas in Mikel Arteta and Yossi Benayoun, Shaqiri could be his next target.
Shaqiri could also be taken in by the evolution currently underway at Anfield, should Kenny Dalglish manage to convince him that Liverpool will make an imminent return to European football.
At present though, it appears Newcastle are in pole position to sign the wonderkid.
