Christian Eriksen to become next Anfield cult hero?
Liverpool are locked in a battle with AC Milan to sign Ajax teenage sensation Christian Eriksen.
Eriksen, 19, is rated one of the best young midfielders in Europe and has been earning rave reviews in Holland.
Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move for Eriksen but the move never materialised during the summer.
But Kenny Dalglish will have to act fast if he wants to get his man as reports in Italy are now suggesting that AC Milan have entered the race to clinch his signature.
Milan have also been impressed with his performances and want to bring him to the San Siro.
Ajax refused to sell their star player during the summer but the situation could change in 2012 and the club are preparing themselves for a bidding war when the transfer window re-opens in January.
Christian Eriksen demonstrated his enormous potential against Liverpool players Glen Johnson and Stewart Downing when England faced Denmark in February.
Indeed, many of the UK newspapers waxed lyrical about the Ajax teenager after the game, with some claiming that he overshadowed England’s own teen hope Jack Wilshere.
Ajax are well aware of Eriksen’s ability though, and have indicated they will adopt a hardball stance with regard to his future sale.
Clubs outside of the biggest in England, Spain and Italy are usually aware they cannot keep their brightest shining lights forever – making their policy to work out the best time to sell and receive the optimum price.
If Liverpool are to convince Eriksen to join them rather than AC Milan, it will also be down to Kenny Dalglish to sell the vision of the club’s future – which he will hope will include UEFA Champions League football rather than later.
The major obstacle appears to be Eriksen’s repeated profession that he wants to join Barcelona over all other clubs.
