Rio Ferdinand amongst a number unable to travel from Old Trafford.
Rio Ferdinand is amongst a host of Manchester United players who was unable to travel to Portugal for their UEFA Champions League match against Benfica.
The England international defender is still struggling with a hamstring complaint, and did not make the trip.
His usual defensive partner Nemanja Vidic is also out with a calf injury, while longer term injuries Tom Cleverley, Danny Welbeck and Rafael are also out.
The striking thing for Manchester United is that despite Ferdinand and Vidic being arguably the best defensive partnership in Europe of the last five years, the fact that there is little of talk of an injury crisis at Old Trafford is a fine tribute to the form of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.
An away match in the UEFA Champions League is their next test together, with Jones likely to make his competition debut.
