Anfield forward in trouble for online comments.
Liverpool forward Nathan Eccleston is being investigated by the club having alluded that the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11th 2001 were in fact the work of the Illuminati.
The 20 year-old, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Charlton Athletic, took to his Twitter account on the 10th anniversary of the disaster to make the bizarre claims:
“I aint going to say attack don’t let the media make u believe that was terrorist that did it. #O.T.I.S.”
The acronym O.T.I.S. is believed to stand for “Only the Illuminati succeed.”
He shortly deleted it, adding later: “Some things get took [sic] way out of context.”
A Liverpool statement read:
“The club takes this matter extremely seriously and senior club officials have informed Nathan Eccleston that we are undertaking an investigation into the circumstances surrounding these postings and will decide on an appropriate course of action.”
Perhaps Eccleston has just been reading too much Dan Brown, but equally it was surely quite obvious that such thoughts from a public figure ought not to be posted on the internet.
