Arsenal red hot favourites to bring Italy international to Emirates Stadium.
Fiorentina midfielder Riccardo Montolivo has called off talks with his team over a new contract, and the club have announced his intention to leave.
The Italy international star’s deal expires at the end of the season, and he will now look for an alternate club.
“The story for Fiorentina Montolivo is closed since yesterday,” said Fiorentina president Mario Cognigni to Corriere Dello Sport.
“The player has reaffirmed its resolve to go to a club and more importantly [his desire] to win.”
“I am the coach and a player is available if I decide to play him,” said Fiorentina manager Sinisa Mihajlovic.
“This decision by Montolivo will certainly not trouble me.”
Arsenal have been the strongest linked team in England for the all round midfielder, but they will have to compete with AC Milan – who are looking for a long term replacement for Andrea Pirlo.
