White Hart Lane boss still wants to keep star.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has told his chairman Daniel Levy to agree a new contract for midfielder Luka Modric.
The 26-year-old put in an excellent display against Liverpool and scored a wonderful goal during the 4-0 win at White Hart Lane.
The Croatia international was the subject of a long-running tug-of-war between Spurs and Chelsea over the summer, with Levy resolutely resisting the Blues’ advances.
At one stage there was a £40 million bid on the table, but the White Hart Lane chief was determined to hang on to the club’s prized asset.
Despite Modric declaring his desire to leave the club for Chelsea, Redknapp believes the playmaker has moved on and will try to tempt him with a new contract offer.
“Luka is fine now, he’s just getting on with it,” Redknapp said.
“I think the chairman will sit down with him and discuss his contract. That’s what I’d like to happen.
“The chairman has said he would give it six or seven weeks, sit down and have a chat with him.
“It was a great strike. That’s why we were offered £40 million for him, because he’s a top player.”
