Stamford Bridge boss prepare move for German international hotshot.
Sources in Germany believe that Chelsea are preparing a January move to sign in form Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez. Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas has watched on as Fernando Torres has struggled for form whilst his other striking options have similarly not being in the best of form.
Thus far this season the West London club’s strike force has netted three goals between them and with Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka at 33 and 31 respectively, nearing the end of their respective careers, Chelsea are on the look out for reinforcements up front.
Reports from Germany have stated that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is ready to sanction a bid in the region of £35m for Gomez who’s physicality may well lend itself well to the Premier League. The 26 year old former Stuttgart man has been in fine form for the Allianz Arena side netting 39 goals in all competitions last term and ten in nine starts in this campaign.
Last term Bayern Munich surrendered their Bundesliga crown to Borussia Dortmund and as a result parted ways with boss Louis Van Gaal, who had signed Gomez in the summer of 2009, and therefore the prolific marksman may be tempted by a move to the Premier League after a career spent solely in Germany.
Chelsea brought in Juan Mata and Romelu Lukaku but the Spaniard appears to be destined for a place out wide and the Belgian teenager appears to be very much one for the future. Villas-Boas is however a big admirer of England Under 21 international Daniel Sturridge who appears to have a bright future at Stamford Bridge.
