White Hart Lane Star missed penalty.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp blames striker Roman Pavlyuchenko for missing vital chances in the Carling Cup for his side not progressing.
Spurs went out 7-6 on penalties to Stoke City after a goalless 120 minutes thanks to a Thomas Sorensen save from debutant Massimo Luongo.
But the Tottenham boss praised Luongo for having the courage to take the penalty and insists the fault lies with the Russian for not finishing the tie in normal time.
“Luongo is okay, of course,” Redknapp said. ‘If Pavlyuchenko had scored, he wouldn’t have had to take one, would he?
“It would have been all over, but that is how it goes.
“The kid had the bottle to step up and take one – so did young Tom Carroll and Jake Livermore, so that was good.”
Meanwhile Tottenham defender William Gallas is in line for a return to the first-team after recovering from a calf injury.
The Frenchman could play against Wigan as he came through 90 minutes for the reserves in the 2-1 defeat to Brentford.
