Anfield and Emirates clubs want same player.
Liverpool and Arsenal will battle to sign Werder Bremen midfielder Marko Marin in January with bids of £20million.
The 22-year-old is being chased by a number of clubs including Roma and Tottenham but it is believed the two Premier League clubs are in the driving seat.
The German international has made quite an impression in the Bundesliga since his move from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2009 for £7.3million.
He has been dubbed the ‘German Messi’ and bagged nine assists last season and has three to his name already in this campaign.
Arsenal are said to have been monitoring him from last year but the German media are reporting that Liverpool are ready to make an offer.
The Gunners hope their good relations with the Bundesliga side will help in their efforts to clinch Marin’s signature but they will have to match the scouser’s financial muscle.
Arsene Wenger signed Per Mertesacker from Bremen this summer, and the defender has been singing the praises of the young playmaker.
