Old Trafford star proves you are what you eat.
Manchester United goalkeeper was caught thieving a £1.19 doughnut from Tesco.
The 20-year-old was quizzed by security staff after he ate an Original Glazed ring treat from a Krispy Kreme cabinet at a store in Altrincham, Greater Manchester.
The Spain U21 international was captured on CCTV helping himself to the treat — but escaped a penalty.
He was heading for the exit without paying when he was stopped by security staff and taken into the store’s ‘stop and search’ room.
De Gea was said to be confused and embarrassed by the whole event.
Despite Tesco having a strict policy of a three-month store ban for alleged shoplifters, police were not called and no further action was taken.
“They weren’t very subtle,” a source told The Sun. “They swaggering in, chatting loudly in Spanish.
“The security guards who monitor the CCTV watched two of them take a doughnut each out of the Krispy Kreme cabinet.
“Incredibly, they then appeared to try to leave without paying — or buying anything else for that matter.”
Last night a Tesco spokesman said: “A customer was spoken to by our security team and the issue was resolved.”
