Goodison Park midfielder has suspension rescinded.
Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell has won his appeal against the red card he was shown during Saturday’s Merseyside derby defeat by Liverpool.
Rodwell was sent off midway through the first half at Goodison Park by referee Martin Atkinson following a challenge on Liverpool striker Luis Suarez.
Liverpool took advantage of their numerical advantage by running out 2-0 winners courtesy of second-half goals from Andy Carroll and Suarez.
However, speaking after the match, Everton boss David Moyes expressed his disappointment at Rodwell’s dismissal and felt it had ruined the game.

Surprise surprise. Does this now mean that Martin Atkinson will be retroactively punished for the mistake? Perhaps it’s only fair that the suspension Rodwell would have suffered be passed on to the hapless official?
Clearly this decision doesn’t help David Moyes get to play the Merseyside derby again but at least he doesn’t lose his young battler for forthcoming fixtures.
