Old Trafford and Etihad Stadium boss’s keen on Gunners man.
MANCHESTER CITY are hoping the thought of teaming up again with Samir Nasri will clinch a £30million move for striker Robin van Persie.
The unsettled Dutch star was devastated when Nasri departed for City and would consider joining the Gunners’ exodus to The Etihad.
Gael Clichy and Kolo Toure are already firm City favourites and Nasri has enjoyed a superb start to life at his new club.
Van Persie, 28, who has put his Hertfordshire home on the market for £1.9m, would love to stay in the Premier League.
And that has alerted both City and neighbours Manchester United into plotting a January raid.
The striker – whose Arsenal contract has 18 months to run – is frustrated at the decline of the Gunners, whose boss Arsene Wenger has already thrown in the title towel with the new season just seven games old.
And he admits City are now well ahead of Arsenal in the annual battle for honours at home and abroad.
Van Persie said: “When I came to Arsenal we immediately beat Manchester City but in recent years much has happened in England.
“I don’t know what I will do but I think the Premier League is still the best in the world.
“It gives me everything.”

Whilst it is true that Robin Van Persie’s case is different from former team-mate Samir Nasri, it being immediately clear that the Dutchman has more of a connection and history with Arsenal Football Club, it must worry Gunners supporters that the 28 year old striker has made it clear he is unsure of his long term future at the North London club.
The former Feyenoord man is the most important player Arsene Wenger has and probably the most consistent performer on the club’s books, hence him being handed the captaincy following Cesc Fabregas’s move to Barcelona. When clear of injury Van Persie is one of the most feared players in his position across the whole of Europe, so it’s no surprise that both Man City and Man United would be keeping an eye on what is happening at the Emirates Stadium.
After eight seasons, and just one League Cup triumph, Van Persie must think long and hard before committing to a new contract, as it is likely to be his last big deal. Whilst the striker, who just reached 100 goals for Arsenal, is fiercely loyal to his club he also must be considering his options and if come the summer they are no nearer to winning major honours then it would not be a huge surprise if he elected to push for a move.
Now many would have thought that any move would be to the continent but comments about his love of the Premier League have clearly got people talking.
Mancini is apparently keen on Van Persie and whilst he has the likes of Edin Dzeko, Sergio Aguero and Mario Balotelli, but likely to offload Carlos Tevez at the earliest opportunity, a player like the Dutch international will not be so easily passed up. Also an offer of £30m for a player who will have just one year left to run on his contract at the end of the season, is a price that Arsenal couldn’t ignore.
Similarly Sir Alex Ferguson may well lose both Michael Owen and Dimitar Berbatov at the end of the season, neither seemingly part of his first team plans, and the Scot is known to be an admirer of Van Persie and may see the experienced performer as a good player to have in his armory alongside Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and youngster Danny Welbeck.
