Arsenal have agreed to sign Real Madrid midfielder Jose Rodriguez and will offer the teenager a five-year contract to move to the Emirates.
The 16-year-old was spotted by the Gunners’ Spanish scout Francis Cagigao after impressing in the Under-17s World Championships.
All that is left is for the two clubs to agree a compensation figure with the Premier League side offering around £750,000, according to the Daily Mirror.
Rodriguez’s arrival signals the continuation of manager Arsene Wenger’s drive to recruit the best young talent from around Europe.
The deal will help fill the holes left by Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri in th summer who joined Barcelona and Manchester City respectively.
The Gunners, who snapped up Hector Bellerin and Jon Toral from Barcelona this summer, have also been keeping tabs on another Real Madrid youngster.
But Chelsea are now leading the hunt to sign Madrid’s 16-year-old striker Jose Pozo, who is keen to move, with Manchester City also watching developments.
