Nou Camp boss looking to add further quality to his Catalan squad.
Barcelona sports chief Andoni Zubizarreta is drawing up plans to sign some of the best young players in the world.
Zubizarreta doesn’t want complacency to run through the club and instead is discussing the prospect of landing a raft of top kids with his most trusted scouts.
El Mundo Deportivo says Santos star Neymar remains a priority, while AC Milan defender Thiago Silva is also on the radar.
Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has been discussed, though Barca are in advanced negotiations with Lanus for their young shot-stopper Esteban Andrada.
For defence, Valencia fullback Jordi Alba and Bolton Wanderers centre-half Gary Cahill are both under consideration and in midfield Internacional’s Oscar is being tracked.
In attack, Napoli striker Edinson Cavani is a favourite of Barca coach Pep Guardiola, while Zubizarreta is watching closely Juan Manuel Iturbe’s progress at Porto.
A couple of things to think about in relation to this rumour. Firstly do Barcelona need to make such drastic moves in the transfer market and secondly, aren’t the Catalan side supposed to be a little cash-strapped? Pep Guardiola does have a relatively small squad in relation to some of his big European competitors but clearly this has not prevented the Nou Camp side from winning trophies with alarming regularity.
The snapping up of Cesc Fabregas and Alexis Sanchez added further strength in depth and quality to a side that was already mightily impressive but perhaps the Barcelona boss is keen to plan for the future and maybe in that regard there are some holes to fill.
Arsenal will be loathed to consider offers for up and coming keeper Wojciech Szczesny but clearly the La Liga side has successfully raided the North London club before. A move to sign Gary Cahill is one that seems very unlikely, not least as he has been very poor this term.
Thiago Silva seems a more likely centre back purchase after the Brazilian helped steer AC Milan to the Serie A title last term. Edinson Cavani has continued his great form from the last campaign by netting six in six this season and he could well add more attacking alternatives to those already available to Guardiola.
Indeed when it comes to out and out strikers Barcelona are a little threadbare so a move for the Uruguayan or Neymar are perhaps the most likely of those noted by this source.
