Emirates Stadium boss keen on Brazilian.
Arsenal have been in touch with Porto about signing Hulk, the striker’s agent has claimed.
But Teodoro Fonseca has warned anyone hoping to sign the powerful striker on the cheap that he will not leave Porto unless his monster £87m release clause is met.
It was reported that Arsenal were in the hunt for Hulk and were preparing a £23m January offer for the Brazil international.
And his agent Fonseca has revealed that the Gunners have shown interest in Hulk in the past.
Sources have revealed that Arsenal could be considering a shock player plus cash swap move using current bench warmer Marouane Chamakh to try and land highly rated Porto front man Vieira de Souza.
Hulk has scored almost 40 league goals for the club since joining in 2008 although he has made just under 80 league appearances proving a ratio of one goal every other game for the Portuguese giants.
A swap deal however will have certain issues as the player is currently also owned by a third party. Although Porto do own 85% of the prolific goalscorer it would be somewhat of a complicated deal to offer cash and a player for someone who is owned by numerous parties.
FC Porto are reportedly holding out for a massive bid that meets Hulk’s release clause but in reality they may find themselves giving in and accepting a smaller offer. We are talking about a club who lost their manager, Andre Villas-Boas, to Chelsea and their star striker, Radamel Falcao, to Atletico Madrid after stating clearly that neither would leave the Estádio do Dragão.
Arsene Wenger may feel his side needs more attacking options although some have speculated that captain Robin Van Persie is undecided as to his future at the North London club and therefore perhaps the signing is to act as a replacement for the Dutchman if indeed he does leave.
Van Persie still finds himself pretty much the sole bearer of the goalscoring load up front. Marouane Chamakh has been a massive disappointment following a good start last term. Carlos Vela and Nicklas Bendtner have been loaned out and are unlikely to figure for the Gunners again.
Wenger brought in South Korean Park Chu-Young in the summer but hasn’t played a minute of Premier League football despite being good enough to score with alarming frequency for his national team in the interim period since his move from Monaco.
Hulk, or Givanildo Vieira de Souza if you prefer, may well jump at the chance of a move to the Premier League and after scoring 40 goals in his last 63 FC Porto matches, as well as providing 27 assists, you can see why there is a clamour for the 25 year old Brazilian international’s signature.
