Juventus general director Giuseppe Marotta has denied reports his club have started negotiations to sign unsettled Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez.

The 27-year-old, under contract with the Blues until 2014, looks set to leave City in January after refusing to appear as a substitute against Bayern Munich last month.

The Argentina international has been linked with a move for the last few months with Brazilian side Corinthians coming the closest to a £40million deal.

Many clubs cannot pay his transfer fee plus £230,000-a-week salary and Marotta has now distanced his club from the speculation.

“It’s normal to talk about players when it comes to Juventus,” said Marotta to Gazzetta dello Sport. “But we have not started negotiations to sign Tevez.

“We have a squad that meets our needs and we will evaluate week by week if we are lacking something.

“We are not the ones to discover Tevez. He is a great player and we are a great club so it’s normal there is a link, but to say that we are negotiating is a different matter.”
