Roma plot Manchester raid for Rio Ferdinand and Carlos Tevez
Roma are set to launch an ambitious loan raid for Manchester-based duo Rio Ferdinand and Carlos Tevez, according to reports in Italy.

The Serie A side are currently seventh in the table, and new manager Luis Enrique is under pressure to improve the fortunes of the unconvincing Giallorossi.
It’s now believed Enrique, with the help of former England general manager Franco Baldini, will try to persuade Ferdinand to up sticks and join them in the Italian capital.
Baldini, who is operating as an executive for Roma, knows the United centre-back well from their time together with the Three Lions, and is convinced the 32-year-old could revitalise his career in Serie A.

This seems a hugely unlikely scenario. New Roma boss Luis Enrique has begun his career as Stadio Olimpico boss in sedate fashion and is perhaps looking to spark his side into life but the chances of securing either of these Mancunian targets is slim to none.

Rio Ferdinand has struggled this season with both injury and form and the arrival of Phil Jones has left many wondering if Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to allow the England international to leave the club. The fact that the Man United boss also has the likes of Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling, not to mention Nemanja Vidic, might lead some to feel that the 32 year old is nearing the end of his time at the club.

Even if that was the case there seems no chance the Scot would allow the player to leave on loan as there would be little or no benefit in agreeing such a deal. If we were talking about a young player who lacked experience then perhaps but we are talking about a player who has been there and done it for quite some time.

Tottenham and MLS side Chicago Fire have also been linked with the centre back.

Carlos Tevez will almost certainly leave Man City in January but again Roberto Mancini’s side are unlikely to accept a loan deal as that would merely leave the club with the headache of the striker still unresolved. With Edin Dzeko, Sergio Aguero and Mario Balotelli all bang in form there is no place for the Argentine misfit who seems likely to return to Corinthians.
