Stamford Bridge side to make mammoth bid for White Hart Lane wide-man.
Chelsea are reportedly ready to make a £40m offer for Tottenham youngster Gareth Bale as Stamford Bridge owner Roman Abramovich looks to flex his financial muscles to help bridge the gap to Premier League front runners Man City. Andre Villas-Boas has earmarked a move for the Welsh international and he will be backed financially by the Russian billionaire who is willing to fund the significant offer for the White Hart Lane star.
Bale is said to have been a target of the West London club for quite some time, even during Carlo Ancelotti’s reign as boss, and now Chelsea are ready to make an offer they feel Tottenham will have to consider.
Harry Redknapp will be loathed to lose the 22 year old but if the North London club fails to secure a spot in the top four then the chances of the former Southampton man being tempted by a move to Chelsea may increase. Chairman Daniel Levy may find it hard to resist such an offer if indeed the left winger made it clear he would like to leave.
Having experienced a taste of the Champions League Gareth Bale will be keen to return to Europe’s premier club competition, not least as he performed wonderfully well in Tottenham’s run to the Quarter Finals last season. The chance to challenge for major honours may also appeal to the Cardiff born starlet.
Chelsea did attempt to snap up Luka Modric over the summer with the Croatian making it abundantly clear he wanted to join the club only for Levy and Redknapp to step in to turn down Villas-Boas’s advances. No doubt Tottenham will attempt to do likewise in a move to sign Bale but they could struggle to prevent the player’s head from being turned if a spot in the coveted top four is not secured.
