Old Trafford boss hopes to sign Borussia Dortmund starlet.
Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to enter the race to sign highly rated German international Mario Goetze as the Old Trafford boss looks to bring in a goalscoring midfielder to add more creativity to his side going forward.
The 19 year playmaker is considered by many as one of the hottest prospects in European football and Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp will be worried that his prized asset will be tempted by a move to the Premier League champions, especially if his side can not challenge front runners Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga title or advance to the knock out stages of the Champions League.
Ferguson has struggled to add a goalscoring presence to his midfield, so much so that he has opted to play Wayne Rooney in an unaccustomed role in the centre of the park. Whilst the Man United boss has a number of central midfielders the likes of Michael Carrick, Anderson and Darren Fletcher do not pose a threat on the opposition defence.
Man United were strongly linked with moves for Wesley Sneijder, Samir Nasri and Luka Modric over the summer but failed to land any of those reported targets and whilst youngster Tom Cleverley has added some creativity to the midfield Ferguson will look to bring in a new signing to help give his side more balance.
Goetze is rated at around £25m and Sir Alex Ferguson is willing to pay the asking price as he looks to improve his squad as rivals Man City march on. The Man United manager may make a tentative enquiry in January but is more likely to make a formal approach in the summer.
Arsenal and Real Madrid are also reportedly keen on the talented youngster who is already a regular in the German national team set-up. Goetze has been in fine form this term, netting four goals and assisting another four and if a substantial offer is made for his services then Klopp may struggle to keep the teenager at the club.
