White Hart Lane to make move for versatile attacker.
Tottenham Hotspur are planning to join Arsenal in the £20million race to sign Cologne striker Lukas Podolski next summer.
Spurs are desperate to sign another striker and want the 26-year-old to make a move to the white half of north London.
The Germany international’s contract expires in 2013 and he wants one last crack at the Champions League while he is in his prime.
It is believed Arsenal are also monitoring Podolski as they search for a striker to provide back-up for captain Robin van Persie.
The Gunners may make a move in January which would scupper Tottenham’s hopes as they will have to wait until the summer to make a bid.
Spurs have other options to turn too if the Podolski deal does not work out.
Harry Redknapp hopes Man City striker Emmanuel Adebayor, currently on-loan at White Hart Lane, can be convinced to take a pay cut and move back to north London permanently.
Aston Villa’s Gabriel Agbonlahor and Athletic Bilbao’s Fernando Llorente are also being closely monitored but may be priced out by their respective clubs.
