Emirates Stadium side one of two sides chasing French international.
Yann M’Vila is likely to join Arsenal or Real Madrid next year, according to his Rennes team-mate and friend Kader Mangane.
M’Vila was the subject of four bids “of around €30 million [£26m]” from Champions League clubs including Arsenal during last summer, according to Rennes.
Mangane believes it is inevitable that the highly-coveted defensive midfielder will be sold by the Ligue 1 club in the next 12 months.
“He might go to England but he also likes the Spanish league. I don’t think he will leave in January but I think he will join Real Madrid or Arsenal next summer.
“The top clubs are right to scout him as I see him with a big career in front of him. Yann has the potential to be one of the biggest players in the world. He has extraordinary abilities.”
“You can see he is a fantastic player from what he does in training,” explained the 28-year-old. “Yann is good enough to play anywhere in the world. He is a complete player. He has a good eye for the game, he is technically excellent and he is also very good at defending and regaining balls.”
Other sources have Arsenal as the leader in the race for the talented young midfielder who has been on Arsene Wenger’s radar for quite some time. His own team-mate is openly speaking of Yann M’Vila’s imminent departure and that says it all. The fact that Real Madrid have a vast array of central midfield options would further suggest that the North London side is winning the race to capture the Rennes starlet.
M’Vila has often been likened to Patrick Vieira and has been hugely instrumental in making Rennes a top six side and having notched up almost 100 appearances for the Route de Lorient club it seems the rangy midfielder is keen to move on from the club he has represented since the age of 14.
Now a regular in Laurent Blanc’s French national team set-up a high profile move will help build on his current career progression and could help add more steel and direction to the Arsenal midfield.
Wenger has a few options in the centre of the park but may feel that M’Vila adds something his current squad doesn’t possess, the ability to defend and attack. Alex Song is a strong battler but perhaps not that proficient at linking midfield and attack. Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere offer guile but less in the way of brute strength.
M’Vila is very much a Wenger style player, comfortable on the ball, quick thinking and adaptable. Jose Mourinho is said to be keen but given that he has the likes of Xabi Alonso, Sami Khedira and Lassana Diarra offering similar traits there would be appear less of a need to bid for the Amiens born player.
