Nou Camp side set to test White Hart Lane club’s resolve with big money offer for Welshman.
Barcelona have stepped up their interest in Gareth Bale – and are ready to make a £35m swoop.
Barca coach Pep Guardiola sent his chief scout Albert Valentine to spy on the Welsh flier in Tottenham’s win at Fulham on Sunday.
Reports from Spain say that Guardiola is now keen to make a move for Bale, with Spurs facing a major battle to keep hold of their prize asset.
But Tottenham’s resolve is likely to be tempted by Barcelona as the left side is a problem which Guardiola is keen to solve.
It is likely they see Bale as an attacking left back as Maxwell, Eric Abidal and Adriano are all seen as weak links.

We’d hardly consider Eric Abidal as a weak link and is seems odd that Pep Guardiola would look to bring in Gareth Bale to play at left back when his career has truly taken off since he was moved further up field into a left winger role. However there is no doubting that a number of Europe’s elite are interested in the 22 year old Welshman, but would Tottenham sell one of their prized assets?
The North London club stuck by their guns and turned down offers for Luka Modric so presumably chairman Daniel Levy would adopt a similar approach with Bale, a player who is tied to a long term contract that runs up to 2015.
Harry Redknapp will not want to lose any of his top performers as to do so would severely hamper his hopes of making Tottenham a club that regularly finishes in the top four.
However if the player himself makes it clear he would be interested in a move to the Nou Camp then there may well be something of a problem.
