Stamford Bridge club keen on Emirates Stadium star.
Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas is reportedly considering making an offer for Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie as the Stamford Bridge boss looks to freshen up his attacking options.
Having seen Fernando Torres fail to make an impact after his £50m move from Liverpool and with the likes of Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou and Nicolas Anelka all strongly linked with moves away from the West London club, the Portuguese boss has earmarked an ambitious move to land the in form 28 year old Gunners captain.
Arsene Wenger will be worried that Van Persie has still not put pen to paper on a new contract and the fact that by next summer the former Feyenoord man will have just a year left on his contract will continue to be an issue which will lead to speculation that after six seasons without silverware the striker may consider leaving the Emirates Stadium.
Man City and Inter Milan are also said to be monitoring events at the North London club, not least because Robin Van Persie is in a rich vein of form at present, notching up 29 goals in his last 29 Premier League starts.
Arsenal have over relied on Van Persie to shoulder the goal scoring burden and though Wenger brought in Marouane Chamakh last summer but after a solid start has experienced a big drop in form. Gervinho and Park Chu-Young were then purchased in the last transfer window and though the Ivory Coast man has improved, he has only managed 2 goals in 13 appearances whereas the South Korean is still yet to play a single minute of Premier League football.
Chelsea have managed a healthy 24 goals in 11 matches thus far this season but of that total only 10 have come from recognized strikers.
Arsenal are sure to turn down offers for Van Persie but the fear is that the talented striker may follow former first team regulars Samir Nasri, Cesc Fabregas and Gael Clichy to the exit if Wenger can not deliver tangible success this term or at the very least a top four finish.
Some sources have stated that Man City may offer £25m for Van Persie, a fee that Chelsea are reportedly ready to match in the summer.
