MLS side want Stamford Bridge midfielder.
LA Galaxy are lining up a shock move for Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard as the perfect choice to replace David Beckham.
It would need a considerable offer to prise Lampard, 33, from Stamford Bridge, especially since his sparkling form has silenced doubts over his future under new manager Andre Villas-Boas.
But Galaxy need to find someone close to Beckham’s profile if speculation about him leaving the Home Depot Center after next Sunday’s sell-out MLS Cup final against Dynamo Houston turns out to be well founded.
In spite of the popular belief that Beckham, 36, was committing professional suicide by quitting Real Madrid for the then little-known American club, his five years at Galaxy have been a success, for him personally and professionally, and especially for the club, whom he has put on the world football map.
If Galaxy cannot hold on to their big star, the next best option would be to recruit someone of Lampard’s stature.
It is understood his name has been discussed.
However, given his engagement to TV presenter Christine Bleakley, moving his career 6,000 miles away could be problematic.
Although the former Footballer of the Year would consider he has a few seasons of top-level football left in him, at 33 he could relish a new challenge.

This is interesting. Frank Lampard has won it all in the domestic game and whilst he clearly hopes to continue racking up medals, and still longs for a Champions League success, maybe the call of a move to the MLS will appeal to the 33 yaer old?
Now into his eleventh season at Stamford Bridge and arguably in his best form in 18 months Lampard may feel that the call from LA Galaxy is perhaps a year or two too early, not least as the former West Ham man is still very much part of Fabio Capello’s England set-up.
However there is a chance that any offer on the table from LA Galaxy may be just too good to turn down and if they were able to entice David Beckham into making the move to California, and remember the 36 year old had just fought his way back into the Real Madrid first team picture and had helped them to a La Liga title but still left for the States.
