Emirates Stadium boss wants Etihad Stadium midfielder.
Arsenal are the latest club to show an interest in Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong after it was suggested that the Dutchman had fallen out with manager Roberto Mancini.
It is believed that the defensive midfielder is considering leaving the Etihad stadium after becoming frustrated at the lack of first team action this season.
Arsenal are reportedly showing an interest in the Holland international as they look to find an experienced defensive midfielder to help the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere.
Spanish giants Real Madrid have also shown an interest in the midfielder and recently sent scouts to watch him in action in City’s Champions League win over Villarreal.
The La Liga leaders are keen to test Manchester City’s resolve and are reportedly prepared to bid as much as £20million for De Jong.
This would be something of a shock move though it may be true Arsene Wenger is reportedly keen to bring in more steel to defend his young midfielders a move for Nigel de Jong seems somewhat unlikely.
The Dutch international has struggled to get first team time this term as Roberto Mancini has opted for Gareth Barry and Yaya Toure as his central midfield duo and the pair have done very well this season. Also the 26 year old former Ajax and Hamburg man is keen to increase his current salary of £55k a week though presumably the lack of first team time may be a more pressing issue, not least with the Euro 2012 finals around the corner.
Arsenal have the likes of Alex Song and Emmanuel Frimpong protecting Wilshere, Ramsey and Mikel Arteta and whilst the Cameroon international has got progressively better and better his younger colleague still looks rash in the challenge and makes too many mistakes at present to be considered a first team regular.
Real Madrid and Arsenal are both said to be ready to offer around £20m for De Jong, a fee that would break the Gunners transfer record payout and is unlikely to be a move that Wenger sanctions.
